I've been browsing through various sites and all seem to have their own way of attaining a six pack. I recently came across this article:
Is it true or false? There doesn't seem to be much about lifting weights which contradicts the stuff i read in the Men's Health forum. If i eat 1500 calories a day, with lots of protein and no bad foods, and followed the iron magazine plan, is it possible to get a six pack or is weight lifting compulsory? Thanks in advance. |

Hey j20, I read the article and I must say that it is totally true. The reason why people lift or use weights to train their abs is to simply gain muscle mass in that area. Now, like what the person say, you will need the second part of the equation and that is to lose body fat (especially around your waist) in order to see your abs clearly. To give you a clearer picture, your abs are like rocks at the bottom of the sea. Only when it is at low tide can it be seen. So similiarly, your abs are actually covered by a layer of body fat and the only way to expose it is to burn them away.
What you are doing now I believe, is going through your own program and that is good. My advice is to engage in core muscle (abdominal muscles) exercises for a maximum of 3 days in a week. On top of that, you will go for mid-intensity cardio execises to burn away the fats. At this stage, it is critical that you watch your diet if you want to see your results fast. Take less carbo but more on proteins. Hope this helps to clarify some doubts. All the best! -------------------- Alberto Ace
