Hiya
I’ve tried a few times to lose a bit of weight/get fit, but never lasts long. I’m incredibly lazy and I can’t cook, therefore all my meals are done by my mum and are 99% unhealthy. I’m approximately 5”7/8 and weight almost 10 stone.
I have no self confidence whatsoever and find it hard to go to the gym if there are other people there which doesn't help my situation at all.
I’m basically looking for some inspiration/motivation and as much advice as I can get!
Oh and btw, I’m a girl, in case people look at my name and think I’m a guy, like most people do.
Thanks!

Newbie Needed Help

Word of advice mate, don't bother here. I know many people who have been on this forum asking for advice (myself included) and you will be COMPLETELY ignored. Just my ten penneths, basically the fitness fanatics on here stick together like glue and arent keen on helping any "newbies" out with any advice, it's the same the reason when you go in a gym you feel a bit out of place and in-confident? Well that's because the arrogant tw*ts in there want you to and actually get off on you feeling like that because it makes them feel better, much like those on this forum. Pathetic really, but true.... They are probably more insecure than you by a long way. Best of luck lad.

Hi Stevie.
Well done for taking the plunge!
The most important reason behind your (and any) goal is that you remind yourself why you are trying to achieve it. Why do most people never achieve their goal? - they don't remind themselves enough! Remember, if you make a mistake and have a bad meal / miss the gym...it's not that you don't want to achieve your goal, you just forgot to remind yourself what it was!
Write down all the reasons why you want to lose weight.
Take a look at my inspirational video, if you have any questions after that, I'll be available to answer!

Good luck.
Phil.

- Use the following bodyweight exercises to help tone your muscles - Squats & Lunges for the lower body, Press ups (against a wall or on knees to start) and dips for the upper body.
- Go out for a brisk walk for 30 mins, at least 3 times a week. You can gradually build up to jogging. If you are too under confident to go out and do this then start off with 15 - 20 mins of stepping exercise (use your stairs if you have them). But remember, most people won't judge somebody trying to get healthier, unless they are jealous, in which case you really shouldn't worry about them!!
- Do a search for home workouts - they'll be a lot available. If they ask for weights then you can use tins of food or old plastic milk bottles filled with water or sand (to the weight you are comfortable with) instead of buying weights.
Post the workout you are following on here and I'm sure you will get some advice on it. People are willing to help in my experience!!
Good Luck!

Hi Stevie
My name is Hannah and i am one of the managing directors of Personal Best Health & Fitness currently selling sports supplements.
I too play rugby, for Devon and North Tawton. I therefore feel the need, like you, to do weight sets in the gym and feel very watched on the odd occasion. I have started to take musci with me and play it loud, this way i find i can get into my own little world and can start to ignore the guys looking or paying attention which is not wanted at all.
After they start to recognise you after you have going for a few weeks they'll treat you as normal and one of the group that uses the weights. This is what i have noticed and its not easy but as horrible as it sound, you just have to get on with it!! Otherwise you may end up missing your fitness goals etc.
Feel free to email me at Hannah@personal-best.org and i will try to give you some fitness and workout tips if you require them. Would be great to hear form you, and also what club you play for and location etc.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hiya, some times instead of looking for someone else to motivate and inspire you, you have to be able to take a look at yourself and decided enough is enough and that you want to change. The greatest motivational speaker in the world cannot force you to go the gym 5 times a day and make you eat healthy food 24/7 if you yourself don't want to. Perhaps something you could do is read stories and testimonies of people who have overcome their personal battles with weight loss, this may do the trick. But overall, its something you've got to want to do bad enough to actually get up and change your lifestyle. I work relatively long hours Monday to Friday, in the evenings i'm busy with personal ventures that i'm working on, and weekends i spend time with my daughter. So the only time i have to go to the gym is in the morning. This means i have to be out of bed at 6.30am to leave at 7am, i cycle to the gym for a quick workout before hitting the showers and being at my desk for 8.30am. This may sound drastic but you'd be surprised how many people are also in the gym at 7am in the morning.
I'm a great Mike Tyson fan and have watched a few documentaries on him. I remember a clip from one documentary saying that at his peak when he was still starting out he would get up at 4am to go running to improve his cardio and endurance, and his motivation was that he knew his opponents wouldn't be doing this so this would be giving him a physical and psychological advantage over them. And this worked for him. It sort of works for me too, because as much as I hate having to get up so early to go to the gym I know that there are people out there who want to look good and lose weight, but they're too lazy to do anything about it so they don't achieve anything. I know that the fact i'm able to get myself out of bed that early and go to the gym gives me and advantage over those people who want to look good.
