Hi
I am 35yrs old, mum to 3 boys and wife and carer for my hubby who is a wheelchair user. I had major surgery on 8th December and as a result I am now in early menopause, using oestrogen only hormone replacement therapy. I am also 4th generation of a family who have died of coronary heart disease and developed late-onset type 2 diabetes.
So far, I don't have either, and I want it to stay that way. I have started seeing a health advisor through my local community centre (an nhs initiative). She has advised me about food, cutting down fats and sugars in my diet. I have also started walking to the school instead of driving, which gives me 2 miles a day. I have found a local pool that does lane swimming early on a Saturday (went this morning!) and I plan to go every Saturday. I also plan to give zumba a go, 1st class Tuesday night.
My BMI is 30.4, I need to lose 15lb to get down to a BMI of 25. I am hoping to get to know some of you online, and be able to give (and get) moral support on my journey to a healthier life!
