To anybody that can help
Hello everyone i'm looking for a little advice to quite bad back pain. I've recently joined the gym and loving it (wished i had done it yrs ago) but the problem is that while i can run on a treadmill for 10k with relatively mild symptoms of back pain i came home after a 6k road run and the pain in my back was almost unbearable for the last 1k. the pain seems to be confined to the lower half of my back. How do i go about alleviating this problem without it wrecking my love for running and fitness before its even started. All advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you wayne uk.

Go to the docs, get cleared for exercise and then start strength training.
Runners literally pound the pavement over long distances and to be quite frank, running in itself doesn't fully adapt the body for running. You need to have a strong core and a reasonable technique. Deadlifts are an excellent exercise when properly performed that can achieve this and can can improve running times also.
Like I say, talk to your doc first to get a better idea of what's up with your back before trying anything but I have used this before with similar complaints and it's worked consistently
Hope this helps
